Join us as we increase the pucker factor with a 25 knot wind, four foot seas and a channel as narrow as it is shallow. We timed our transit for slack water, at least we hoped it would be slack. Available information was terribly exact as to when slack water was in the two hour window after high or low tide in Nassau.

Fortunately we were joined by three other boats with the same idea and we radioed instructions and status back to each other. Carol is much calmer in shallow water than I am and she whispers words of encouragement as I grip the helm.

Current Cut is also a hot scuba diving spot, if you can find a good guide. We didn’t ride the Cut, but if the drifting in 6 knots of tidal flow sounds fun, then you really should check this place out. Once we popped out the other side we stayed for a couple of days and explored the little village of Current Settlement, one of the oldest on Eleuthera.

  2. Ah. I believe you have not made the passage of Canapitsit Channel with me. That’s the one between Cuttyhunk and Nashawena. My recollection is that Vicki stood on the foredeck, greeting each rock by name. No great current though (sometimes).
