After our quick beat down the east coast to the Chesapeake we spent a few more days in Norfolk, Virginia, than we’d have liked. Norfolk gave us a chance to pick up a couple of new crew members, Sledge and Abby. Sledge and I met in Peru and rode our motorcycles to Alaska and back four years ago. We had a notion that we’d ride all the way to Patagonia, but life kind of has a way of redirecting plans. As if to prove that point, Abby is Sledge’s wife and they’re on their honeymoon – with us. Reckless kids! I tell ya!

Waiting for a weather window that wasn’t opening, we changed our plans for going offshore around Cape Hatteras and instead headed back down the ICW. Retracing our steps from last winter has been fun. It’s not entirely how we remembered it and the log has been helpful. The Alligator River Swing Bridge is one of Carol’s favorites and in this short video she explains why.

Once we reach Beaufort, we have a couple of projects to finish up and then it’s off to the Bahamas. Marlon has the Bahamian stamp of approval – at least until he meets a vet when he gets there. Now if only the USDA can come up with the goods!
