Just south of Guadeloupe are the Îles des Saintes. We found them both beatific and beautiful. We moored off the little island of Cabrit. Deserted now, the ruins of a Napoleonic citadel are a short walk up the hill on Cabrit. At the top you’ll find spectacular sunsets to drink to, along with a few goats to worry your dog.
On the main island of Terre de Haute there’s a Napoleonic lookout tower at the top of a much more challenging hill. The views, as you will see in the photos, make the climb worthwhile. The large, well preserved fort just outside of town is open from 09:00 to 12:30 most days. We arrived at 12:35. It was closed.
The town has several very nice restaurants along with the obligatory touristika. Stop by. You’ll find your idyll. I’m sure of it.

Dog meets goat. How did that introduction pan out?
The first time Marlon met goats (see photo) they were curious and he was cautious. Later that evening Marlon barked at another goat that wanted to butt him over a cliff. He retreated.
