Spain continues to inspire and amaze us with her long history, so much of which remains intact. About the size and shape of Oregon and Washington combined, Spain is manageable driving-wise. Hopping in the car, we made the long drive on almost empty roads from Cartagena to Seville. From there we turned north and took in the sights of Cáceres and Mérida. We then continued our journey across the plains to Toledo. The weather closed in and snow covered the hills along our route. Worse, a huge storm spun up out of the Mediterranean and battered the east coast. Fortunately, Aleta was snug in Cartagena’s natural harbour, sheltered from the 60 knot winds and 40-foot waves.

Our last stop was at Spain’s Grand Canyon. If you search for Spain’s Grand Canyon, you’ll get at least a half dozen answers. This answer was centered around the delightful town of Alcalá del Júcar, which lay directly on our route back to Spain’s southeast corner. It was wonderful.

We’ll have a more complete update shortly. For now, enjoy these few photos and dream about your next trip to Spain.
